planning for the future is a good idea for musicians. even if you consider your official career to be a musician, the progression of your education/secondary career goals should not stop. this is a list of what you should do to be a responsable musician.

If your still in school, stay in school and try harder to get good grades. friends who influence you to do otherwise may not really be your friends.

if you dropped out of school, go back as soon as you can. if you dropped out of high school, or never went to begin with, getting your g.e.d. may be a better option according to your age.

after your high school diploma/g.e.d., if you can't type or your just not that good at it, you should take a college typing class. just like playing an instrument, a teacher should show you how to have good form (have the same amount of time between each "keystroke" no matter what key your pressing, only typing faster if you can keep this rule).

after learning how to type, there are two more classes you should take. the first class should teach you the most popular "word processing software" (microsoft word) and the most popular "e-mail software program" (microsoft outlook). you should have these two "software programs" mastered. you should also have a good understanding of the other software programs they teach in that class. the other class should teach you how to use the most popular computer "operating system" (windows). if possible, take these two classes at the same time. before taking these classes, make sure they are the most popular (what most businesses use).

about every three years a new version of the software or a new version of the operating system will come out. when that happens, you should take that class again to stay updated on the changes. it should not be to hard, most of it will be the same.

now its time to choose a career. out of all the careers that might be available by the time you graduate, what would you most like to do (besides musician). something that takes at least four years of college (full time). you should go to college full time, unless there is a really good reason why you can't. if you can't go full time, then go as much as you can, but, as i've already said, you should really go full time if possible.

if you feel you don't have the money to go to college, ask alot of questions about financial aid and scholarships.
